SONG REVIEW: Misha B, Home Run

TITLE: Home Run
ARTIST: Misha B
LABEL: Relentless Records
RELEASED: July 15th 2012

Another X Factor 2011 contestant began their musical career today and once again, it’s a track that is fresh and chart-friendly. Misha wowed the judges with her unique style and sound and certainly her out-there fashion hasn’t changed a bit. Home Run doesn’t really showcase her true vocal talents but it’s a cool track that will definitely do well.

The Manchester-based diva, who has managed to bag herself a support slot on Nicki Minaj’s UK tour, has said of her debut single:

“I wrote it sometime back about an ex, so it’s a bit of a sad one. Then we flipped it and made it more fun and interesting. The ex loves it, we are good friends now, we were quite young back then.”

With an intro that showcases the rich soul tones, which she demonstrated on the show, before reverting to a hip hop sound. The thumping beat and fast lyrical delivery make it perfect for jumping about to and it will certainly be a massive club hit this season. A video plastered in fluorescents and tribal patterns, it’s rave heaven with a rather sassy, glamourous Misha.

A little bit of originality could definitely be injected into it, due to the fact it is very similar to Minaj in places. Misha appears to have jumped on the hip hop queen bandwagon, when she could really relish her soulful tones. If she’s all about creativity and producing new ideas, it would be great to see her channel her inner Aretha Franklin with an emotional ballad. Fingers crossed she’s got a few on her album, which is currently being worked on by MNEK and Naughty Boy who have worked with Professor Green and Emeli Sande, respectively.
